It has been a while since I have posted on the blog! May and June are incredibly busy for my family, so I usually scale my shooting schedule way back during those months. January through May were very busy, and I am happy to say that July through December are already looking busy as well! That being said, I am busy with all boys! We have had one baby girl on the books, and she has finally arrived into this great big world! Allow me to introduce, baby A!
Alison is the MOM who won the recent contest I held for an anonymous act of kindness! Let me start by reinforcing what a thoughtful deed she and her husband did. This woman, from the moment I saw her, exudes energy, charm, and warmth. I don’t doubt that she lights up every room she enters!
Alison, it was a pleasure!
I love being a maternity, newborn, and baby photographer, but, as I continue to develop and grow in my field, I am humbled by more than the artistic side of having the profession. As a photographer who specializes in maternity, newborn, and babies, I am a passenger through the most exhilarating, monumental, life changing experiences of my client’s lives. THAT is humbling! I’m privileged to get to capture these moments. I end up on a journey with couples who are transforming into families, or children who are transforming into siblings. I get to touch bellies that are otherwise prohibited from being touched, hold newborns that only parents and grandparents have been allowed to hold, and come back to see how those sweet babies have grown through their first year and beyond. When my sweet mommies are heading to the hospital, do you know who they call? Their doctors! Ha! But, you know who they have their significant other call? Me! They call their photographer so they can scramble to clear their “shoot days” for that week! That first week is the highlight, magical week of being able to capture the newborn phase in the best possible way! When my mommies are finally settling back into their homes with their brand new babies, their photographer is who they welcome into their homes. I am in love with my profession, and the artistic growth that comes year after year, but I am also in love with journey that I am blessed to embark on with all of you! Thank you for trusting me with that responsibility! xoxo
I am really looking forward to my little guy’s upcoming cake smash session, and the completion of his milestone sessions! The final product of all milestone sessions together is so adorable, and I can’t wait to share it with you!! I am also feeling so lucky, as I have found a company who specializes in making smash cakes for children with food intolerances! I think we would have had to camouflage rice crispy treats to look like a cake if we hadn’t found Sensitive Sweets!
I wanted to make a blog post featuring two exciting announcements!

You may remember, recently I had a Maternity Milestone Session with a couple who was expecting twins. We just finished their Newborn Milestone Session for the very handsome twin boys! Typically, we aim to have newborn sessions within the first five days of life. There are many factors that go into that time table, such as the level of sleepiness and “pose-ability” the babies have at that time. Also, the mother’s hormones leaving the infant’s system has usually not caused small bumps on the cheeks yet, and their skin has not begun to flake excessively as it sheds from being in water for up to 42 weeks!
We have to adjust our time table “norm” with twins because often times they make their entrance into the world early, usually requiring a brief stay in the NICU. In these situations, photo shoots and editing take a little longer. The twins boys that I recently photographed were no exception to the “late shoot” norm that usually applies to multiples, but they were an exception to the skin changes! These precious little guys (and I do mean PRECIOUS) had almost utterly flawless skin! I was blown away! We quickly realized during our shoot that the boys were very comfortable with having their picture taken, but only if they were swaddled in their Aden and Anais blankets. We scrapped the idea of having any diaper shots, nude shots, or cheesecloth wrapped shots! The plus side to this decision was that my clients (whom I adore) preferred to have this look over the “posed” look anyway! Thankfully, they wanted a more “lifestyle” based shoot!
Their Milestone Three Session will be coming up in a few months, and I am really excited to see what we can get! Once the boys are old enough to move about, capturing the IN THE MOMENT/lifestyle shots will be very achievable and enjoyable!
Below are some images from our session!
We each have our own unique talents or gifts. Using them, we can give or share with others. I’m not in the business of working for free. I can’t afford to, nor do I know anyone who can, but I CAN use my talents as a gift to share with others. When I set out on this contest adventure, I was brainstorming ways to help people find my page. I wanted more likes and for more people to find me. Essentially, I wanted more session opportunities, but then it evolved! Gathering information about how to grow your likes all seemed so one sided. I wanted to do something else; I wanted to do something bigger. I wanted to give back! Once I established that the contest would center around giving a free, half off, and discounted session, I needed to set the parameters. Who? Who could/should win? Something that has, for some unforeseen reason, always been dear to my heart is anonymous giving. I’ve always been a giver, but I never share, not even with my husband, to whom I give! Sure, we as a family donate to charities and we tithe weekly, but I’m referring to moments of giving….It’s random, unprovoked, and unrewarded. There are just moments where you feel led to act! Some, including myself, consider it God putting it in your heart to do something. He knows how that kindness, no matter how small, will flourish in the life of that other person. Because of this, I decided that my contest should be one which thanked and shined a light on other individuals who have felt led to do things anonymously as well! The contest itself can not be done anonymously, obviously, or no one would have known about it, but I will keep the anonymity of the contest winners and all those who emailed to enter. This was a very special project, and one that I may make an annual one! Thank you again to all who entered! I hope you continue to find ways to pay it forward (great movie, by the way)!
The first and second place winners each chose sibling photo shoots! I’m looking forward to capturing moments that highlight the inseparable bond between siblings!
It was a privilege to read all of your emails! I was humbled by the stories of how you have reached out and done something incredibly unselfish with absolutely no recognition! The reward for doing something for another was simply the feeling it gave you in your own heart. I have to admit, deciding between the first and second place winners was incredible challenging! I thank each of you for sharing your stories. Everyone is eligible for 10% off both a photo session and images (must be claimed before April 1, 2014), but the winners are in the picture below! I can not share their stories, as it would nullify the anonymity of their acts of kindness, but I promise you they were incredible!
